Consultations usually last about 30 minutes. It is not necessary to be referred to us by your doctor. During your first visit we will discuss with you your presenting problem and medical history, as well as any other factors which may be relevant, such as your employment or work history. You will then be examined by a fully qualified osteopath, after which a diagnosis will be given. A suggested course of treatment will be offered and, where possible, an indication of the number of treatments and likely cost. If it is considered that osteopathy will not help your condition you may be advised to visit your doctor or seek another type of treatment. Treatment is generally pain-free and gentle but when applied correctly to acute pain the benefit is often noticed quickly. Longstanding and chronic conditions can take longer to improve but these may respond to osteopathy where other therapies have failed. For the first visit a double appointment is necessary, please allow one hour. For any subsequent appointments please allow 30 minutes. All information given is treated in the strictest confidence.
